Dr. Coby Ray, MD, is a fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic and functional eye and facial procedures in Lubbock, Texas. As one of only two oculoplastic specialists in West Texas, Dr. Ray delivers advanced surgical and non-surgical care for conditions affecting the eyelids, brows, tear ducts, and orbital structures.

Dr. Ray has been recognized with numerous honors, including the 2024 Texas Monthly Super Doctors Rising Stars, the 2023 AAO Best Poster Award, and a Teaching Excellence Award from TTUHSC. He was nominated for the Gold Humanism Honor Society, is a Beta Gamma Sigma MBA honors inductee, and received multiple poster awards. He has also published and presented nationally on topics such as orbital fractures, mucormycosis, and teprotumumab-associated hearing loss.

Education

Dr. Coby Ray completed his medical training through the MD/MBA Combined Degree Program at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, earning both his Medical Doctorate and Master of Business Administration, along with a Graduate Certificate in Health Organization Management (all conferred in 2013–2015). During medical school, he graduated with the Recognition of Focused Practice in Neurosurgery, highlighting his early commitment to academic rigor and clinical excellence.

Before attending medical school, Dr. Ray earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research for Healthcare Professionals from Drexel University College of Medicine, which strengthened his foundation in research design and evidence-based medicine. He also completed extensive post-baccalaureate science coursework at the University of North Texas after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, where he was a Division I student-athlete and academic honoree.

Following medical school, Dr. Ray pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, focusing on ocular microbiology and research from 2016 to 2018. This period included work as a Clinical Research Associate in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, where he contributed to numerous publications and research initiatives.

His formal medical training also included an internship in Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (2015–2016), followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (2018–2021), providing the multidisciplinary clinical foundation that supports his expertise today.

Personal Interests

Dr. Ray is a former NCAA Division I basketball player for the University of North Texas. He remains active through scuba diving (he is a certified PADI Rescue Diver) and volunteer work. He has participated in mission trips to Brazil, youth mentorship programs, and humanitarian aid drives.
