Dr. Shihab began his academic journey at the American University of Beirut, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1970 and his Doctor of Medicine in 1974, followed by an Ophthalmology residency completed in June 1977. Specializing in glaucoma, Dr. Shihab completed a glaucoma fellowship at Albany Medical Center Affiliated Hospitals in Albany, New York, from 1977 to June 1979, and holds a certification in Health Organization Management from the Texas Tech School of Business Administration, earned in 1992. Dr. Shihab commenced his professional journey as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, simultaneously serving as an Attending Ophthalmologist at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Albany.
During his academic career, he served as Associate Professor and Director of Glaucoma at the Department of Ophthalmology, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, in Lubbock, Texas. Since June 1987, Dr. Shihab has maintained a private practice specializing in glaucoma, contributing significantly to eye care. Concurrently, he serves as a Clinical Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Department of Ophthalmology, in Lubbock, Texas.
