Cataract Surgery: Post Operation

Anyone who has undergone cataract surgery will know that the post-operative process is just as necessary as the surgery itself. Here are some tips to help you through the first few weeks and ensure a speedy recovery from West Texas Eye Associates in Lubbock, TX.

Cataract Surgery

First Week

During the first week after cataract surgery, it is important to avoid strenuous activity, getting soap or water in your eyes, and rubbing your eyes. Sleep with your head elevated and used an eye shield while sleeping. You'll likely be given antibiotic eye drops and should use them as directed to avoid infection. Avoid swimming and using eye makeup.

Fourth to Sixth Week

During the fourth to sixth week after surgery, your doctor will check your progress and make sure that your incisions are healing properly. You may also need to continue using eye drops to help reduce inflammation and promote healing. If the doctor says it's okay, you may resume wearing makeup and activities like swimming.

Eighth Week and Beyond

At this point, most people are fully healed. Our ophthalmologist might request to see you for a final check-in regarding your post-operative recovery. While most surgery patients experience better vision, you may still need to wear glasses or contacts, which your eye doctor can discuss depending on the results of an eye exam. It's essential to inform your doctor about any changes in eyesight after this point.
