In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Tim Khater performed a corneal transplant surgery on Bryan Hughes, the weatherman for Fox 34 News. Bryan’s right eye was transplanted in 2005, and his left eye was transplanted in 2006 for a condition known as keratoconus, where the front part of the eye is misshapen. In Bryan’s case, his eyes were bad enough where he was unable to see well enough with glasses or contacts.
After his successful left eye surgery, Bryan is seeing 20/20 with the aid of a contact lens. Currently, Bryan is healing well in his right eye, and will be soon fitted with another contact lens for it. To see the videos, please click on the Fox 34 logos. There are 2 videos: video 1 and video 2.

We at West Texas Eye Associates are proud of Mike’s accomplishments, and wish him the best of success in his new career as a professional football player.
Now, wavefront procedures can be done for nearsightedness with or without astigmatism, farsightedness with or without astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism patients. This is the widest array of laser vision correction procedures available.
In addition, cataract surgery at The Cataract & Surgical Center of Lubbock can now be done with WhiteStar technlogy, from AMO. This allows for a much safer procedure, since most of the risk of thermal eye injury is removed.
Laser vision correction screening now includes testing with the Bausch and Lomb Orbscan IIz, a device used to measure the posterior curve of the cornea. This allows for a safer procedure with less risk of complications. To our knowledge, this is the only device of this type in Lubbock.
Dr. Khater has performed Lubbock’s first CustomVue Laser Vision Correction procedure, at the Laser Eye Center of Lubbock, with its Star S4 vision correction system. Star S4 features all of the benefits of S3. Additionally, Star S4 can perform CustomVue wavefront corrections. CustomVue provides a way of correcting higher order aberrations of the eye such that the vision correction, night glare, and visual outcomes are almost always better than traditional laser vision correction.
