NewsJune 2006On June 21, 2006, Mark Kennedy, of KAMC Channel 28 News had Intralase/VISX LASIK Surgery, performed by Dr. Tim Khater. This television news event was broadcasted to the residents of the Lubbock area. Mark had been wearing glasses and contacts since his early childhood. He had nearsightedness and astigmatism. Without his glasses, Mark was approximately 20/400. Mark had the Intralase blade-free, VISX Customvue LASIK surgery. Since his sucessful surgery, Mark is seeing better than 20/20 without glasses or contacts. It was NOT a paid advertisement. Click on the KAMC logo for the news clip. Assorted dates in 2005 and 2006In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Tim Khater performed a corneal transplant surgery on Bryan Hughes, the weatherman for Fox 34 News. Bryan's right eye was transplanted in 2005, and his left eye was transplanted in 2006 for a condition known as keratoconus, where the front part of the eye is misshapen. In Bryan's case, his eyes were bad enough where he was unable to see well enough with glasses or contacts. After his successful left eye surgery, Bryan is seeing 20/20 with the aid of a contact lens. August, 2005July, 2005On July 28, 2005, Dr. Khater performed the LASIK procedure on Mike Smith, former Texas Tech Red Raider, and current member of the NFL Baltimore Ravens. On the very next day, Mike saw 20/20 without glasses, and was seeing better than 20/20 on the following day. March, 2005Now, wavefront procedures can be done for nearsightedness with or without astigmatism, farsightedness with or without astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism patients. This is the widest array of laser vision correction procedures available. In addition, cataract surgery at The Cataract & Surgical Center of Lubbock can now be done with WhiteStar technlogy, from AMO. This allows for a much safer procedure, since most of the risk of thermal eye injury is removed. January, 2005Laser vision correction screening now includes testing with the Bausch and Lomb Orbscan IIz, a device used to measure the posterior curve of the cornea. This allows for a safer procedure with less risk of complications. To our knowledge, this is the only device of this type in Lubbock. June, 2003Dr. Khater has performed Lubbock's first CustomVue Laser Vision Correction procedure, at the Laser Eye Center of Lubbock, with its Star S4 vision correction system. Star S4 features all of the benefits of S3. Additionally, Star S4 can perform CustomVue wavefront corrections. CustomVue provides a way of correcting higher order aberrations of the eye such that the vision correction, night glare, and visual outcomes are almost always better than traditional laser vision correction. September, 2002The Cataract & Surgical Center of Lubbock has opened for business. The Cataract & Surgical Center of Lubbock features Lubbock's most advanced standalone surgicenter dedicated to the safe and effective removal of cataracts. Built using the most recent systems for a surgical center, the facility is certified by Medicare and the Texas Department of Health. The equipment featured includes an Alcon Legacy 20000 with Advantec phacoemulsification machine, a Zeiss Visu 150 operating microscope, HEPA air filtration, on-site power generation (in case of power failure), and redundant backups of the surgical machines (in case of machine or microscope failure).
